Top 10 Features to Look for in Garage Management Software in India

The garage software market is flooded with apps built for Western workshops. Most lack the India-specific basics you need — GST handling, Hindi support, and pricing that makes sense for small garages. Use this checklist before you pay for any subscription.

1. GST-compliant invoicing out of the box

The app must handle CGST/SGST/IGST split automatically, validate GSTINs, and support HSN/SAC codes. If you have to add taxes manually, skip it. Read our GST guide for what compliance really means.

2. Job card management

Creating, updating and closing job cards should take seconds, not minutes. Look for search by vehicle number, inline parts and labour, status tracking, and photo attachments.

3. Customer and vehicle history

Every customer should have a full visit timeline — services done, parts replaced, invoices issued. This is where repeat revenue hides.

4. Payments and outstanding dues

Cash, UPI and card entries. A clear "who owes me" list. One-tap reminders. Without this, money leaks quietly.

5. Inventory (optional but powerful)

If you carry parts, the app should track stock levels, low-stock alerts, and purchase history per supplier. Over-ordering brake pads is as bad as running out of oil filters.

6. Reports that make sense to you

Daily, monthly and yearly reports for revenue, expenses, profit, and outstanding. Skip apps that throw 40 charts at you and say nothing clearly.

7. Bilingual interface (English + Hindi)

Your mechanics may not be comfortable in English. A proper Hindi UI — not just menu labels, full-content localization — makes daily use possible for your whole team.

8. Phone and tablet support

The app should work well on a ₹10,000 Android phone and on a 10-inch tablet at the counter. Adaptive layouts are now table stakes.

9. Cloud sync and data safety

Your data should live in the cloud (Firebase, AWS, or similar) — never on one phone. Losing a phone should never mean losing your business data.

10. Indian pricing

Software priced in USD is a red flag. Look for transparent INR pricing with a free tier so you can try before you pay.
